Free taster session for every new student
I’m Charles Appleyard. I tutor Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for GCSE, A-Level and younger students — online anywhere in the world, or in person near Langton (DL2 3HB).
AQA, Edexcel, OCR — taught from the exam specification, so other boards are no problem.

“Starts with your questions” isn’t a slogan — it’s exactly how I run every lesson. I begin by asking, “Do you have any questions for me?” I’m not another teacher here to re-cover content you’ve already been taught. Bring me the things that confused you in a lesson, anything you’re curious about, any question about the subject that’s relevant to you. Haven’t got one ready? No problem — I’ll take you through your book and exam specification and quiz you until we hit something you don’t know, then I’ll teach you exactly that. I also want you to send me questions during the week: the moment you meet a topic you don’t get, message me and I’ll queue it for your next lesson. The more you bring, the more useful the hour becomes.
I’m Charles Appleyard, and I run Appleyard Tutoring myself — every lesson is taught by me, never a rota of tutors. I’ll get to know exactly how you learn and build the lessons around your questions.

At the student’s home, with a parent present.
Travel is charged at the government mileage rate (55p per mile).
Get in touch
Fill in the enquiry form and I’ll call you personally to chat about what you need.
Free taster session
A no-charge first session — online or in person — so you can see how I work before committing.
Regular lessons
A weekly slot that suits you, with a live collaborative whiteboard on Microsoft Teams for online lessons.
Lessons are one hour by default, but you can make them shorter or longer. My advice: however long you can genuinely focus for — and longer is usually better, because more of the time goes on real teaching rather than settling in, travel or setup. (That focus point applies to me too.)
Per hour, by level. First taster session is free.
GCSE
A-Level
Clear and fair, both ways — nothing hidden.
Cancellation policy
At least 24 hours’ notice either way. If I cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, you get a free lesson to make up for it. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice (or don’t show without letting me know), the lesson is charged in full — unless there was a genuine reason and neither of us could have let the other know in time.
No-shows
It works both ways. If you’re not there within 5 minutes of the start time, it’s treated as a no-show (charged in full unless you’d let me know there was a reason). And if I haven’t appeared within 5 minutes, treat the lesson as off — you don’t owe anything, and you get a free lesson to make up for it.
Book an extra lesson or move a session using the booking links I’ve shared with you — everything syncs to my calendar automatically.
Safeguarding first
In-person lessons happen at your home with a parent present. Online lessons can be recorded and shared for revision — your choice. Parents are always welcome to sit in.
A personal service
Every enquiry gets a personal call from me — no call centres, no rota of tutors. One tutor who gets to know how your child learns.
